Manga

Kurz-mangy

We invite juniors to a semester-long Japanese comic course, where they will learn:

  • the essential basics every manga artist needs,
  • something about color theory,
  • how to work with watercolors and alcohol markers,
  • how to understand perspective and composition.

Students will create their own characters, learn to stylize portraits and figures in both American and Japanese manga styles, and develop their own story along with an original comic book cover.
The course is led by professional artist and energetic instructor Stan Solo.

About the Instructor

Stan Solo is an artist, freelance illustrator, and art techniques instructor. He has been working independently for seven years. As a freelance illustrator, he produces commercial and applied illustrations, creates murals in restaurants, cafés, and offices across Prague, and paints both small- and large-format works on commission.

In his personal work, he is influenced by street culture, comics, street art, and graffiti, as well as by music and architecture.
He is currently working on the continuation of his original series The No Face, which explores the impact of human activity and commercial influence on the city, nature, and public spaces shared by society.

Among his preferred media and techniques are watercolor, acrylic, and ink, and he is also a technically skilled airbrusher. While digital work is an essential part of his collaborations with clients and architects, he remains deeply passionate about purely analog creation. For instance, his posters are now produced exclusively by hand using the posterization method of his own designs followed by stencil techniques.

Stan is an avid urban sketcher. Over the course of his teaching career, he has inspired and taught more than 2,000 people the technical fundamentals of drawing, sketching, and illustration.
He exhibited his work at the Art Block Festival in 2016 and participated in an exhibition at the Future Gate Festival in 2018. He has created three illustrative series to date and is increasingly focusing on his independent artistic work.
